Secretary Kahveci welcomes German military delegation in Iraq
Kurdistan Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci on 8 December welcomed Christof Neumann, adviser to the German forces' command in Iraq.
Secretary Kahveci and Mr. Neumann discussed the status and rights of the ethnic and religious communities in Kurdistan Region. Secretary Kahveci said that the communities had gained many of their rights through the policies of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Parliament’s legislation. They have an important role in the Kurdistan Parliament and other institutions in Kurdistan Region, she said. As a Turkmen herself, Secretary Kahveci said that Turkmen are in Parliament’s presidency and the current KRG cabinet has one Turkmen minister, Aydin Maruf.
On the political and economic situation and relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, the Parliament Secretary said that she supports the KRG's negotiating team’s stance and efforts to secure Kurdistan Region's financial rights and dues within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution.
Secretary Kahveci highlighted the worsening conditions for ethnic and religious communities in the areas outside the Kurdistan Region and said, “most of the communities want to come to Kurdistan Region because of the peace and security here."
She thanked Germany for its continued support for Kurdistan Region and for the Peshmerga forces in combatting ISIS, and hoped for even closer relations between Kurdistan Region and Germany.
