Committees' recent meetings - 4 February 2020
Reconstruction and Investment Committee
3 February - The committee visited the KRG Investment Board and met with its Head, Dr. Muhammad Shukri.
The meeting emphasized greater coordination and co-operation between the committee and the Investment Board.
The committee gave Dr. Shukri several suggestions and recommendations for improving economic investment in Kurdistan Region.
Culture, Civil Society, Sports and Youth Committee
3 February – A subcommittee of the committee, led by the chair Ms. Salma Fatih (PUK), held their usual meeting. They discussed the expenditure of 5 million US dollars allocated to Erbil when it was selected as the 2014 tourism capital by the Arab Council of Tourism. They discussed the existing reports on the matter.
After their meeting the subcommittee visited the Financial Audit Office to find out more about how the budget was spent. They also obtained information on complaints about the case so that they can in the future take legal action if failures and wrong-doing are found.
The subcommittee decided to meet with the Kurdistan Integrity Commission soon to discuss the case.
Protection of Women's Rights Committee
3 February - The committee, led by the chair Ms. Lanja Dizayee (KDP), met with the Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs Dr. Pishtiwan Sadiq. They discussed having more coordination on their work in the area of women’s affairs and rights.
They also discussed the status of women's rights in Kurdistan and what can be done to protect and further their rights. Minister Sadiq said that securing women's rights is important and added, “Protecting social cohesion and women's rights is one of our most important tasks, and we must work together to achieve this."
The Committee thanked the Ministry for their efforts to organize several conferences on the importance of peaceful religious and social coexistence and the protection of women's rights.
Peshmerga Committee
3 February – The committee, led by the chair Mr. Reving Heruri (KDP), held their regular meeting.
The committee members exchanged views and suggestions on their programme of work for the next session, the spring session that will begin in March. The committee decided to visit several government departments and institutions to review a range of committee-related work.
The committee responded to all the notes, reports, and complaints submitted to them, and presented some of them to the Presidency of Parliament.
