Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with France’s Consul General Olivier Decottignies

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 30 January met with Mr. Olivier Decottignies, France’s Consul General in Kurdistan Region.

The French Consul General congratulated Kurdistan Parliament on passing the Reform Law, which he said was a considerable achievement and a very good first step on the reform path. He commented that carrying out reform is challenging in most countries.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that other reforms are on the agenda, including amendments to the Investment Law, Peshmerga Reform with the support of the International Coalition, and taxation reform.

The threat of ISIS reemerging, particularly in the near Kirkuk, Mosul and Kurdish areas that are outside the KRG administrative area, is very real, Mr. Hawrami said, and therefore the continued support of the international coalition is crucial.

Mr. Hawrami and Mr. Decottignies also discussed the latest political developments in Kurdistan and Iraq, the Erbil-Baghdad dialogue on the 2020 budget and oil, and the situation in the wider Middle East region.
