Committees’ recent meetings – 21 January 2020
A summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees' recent meetings and activities:
Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee
19 January – MPs from the committee led by the chair Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP) welcomed a delegation from the KRG Department of Foreign Relations Affair led by the Department’s Head, Minister Safeen Dizayee. They discussed the current situation in Iraq and the tensions between Iran and the US, and its impact on the Kurdistan Region. Mr. Dizayee stated that Kurdistan does not want to be dragged into the tensions and remains neutral. Dr. Babkayi commended Kurdistan Region’s neutrality policy.
They also discussed the Kurdish Diaspora Bill, and Dr. Babkayi asked Minister Dizayee and his staff to make their suggestions about the Bill. Both sides agreed to have further cooperation and coordination.
Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee
19 January - The committee, led by the chair Mr. Abdulsalam Dolamari (KDP), held their regular meeting and discussed the Education Bill which was submitted to Parliament by the KRG Ministry of Education. The committee will collate their comments and suggestions on the bill.
The MPs also reviewed their visits to education and higher education institutions.
Health and Consumer Rights Committee
19 January - The committee, led by the chair Dr. Sabah Zebari (KDP), held their regular meeting. They discussed the impact of unhealthy and sub-standard food on the public. The MPs pledged to follow-up on the problem because of its direct impact on people’s health. The MPs also discussed the notes and complaints sent by the public, they replied to some and sent the others to the relevant authorities for follow-up.
