Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with South Korea's Consul General Choi Kwang-jin

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 9 January met South Korea's Consul General in Erbil, Mr Choi Kwang-jin. They discussed bilateral ties and the recent events in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Mr. Hawrami briefed Mr. Choi on the statement by the three presidencies of the Kurdistan Region following their meeting yesterday.

The presidencies of the Region, of the Parliament, and of the Government jointly called for de-escalation of the tensions and conflict, and called for a resolution to problems through dialogue and diplomacy. The Deputy Speaker said that the Kurdistan Region does not want to get dragged into a conflict.

The presidencies of the Kurdistan Region also believe that the continued support of coalition forces in the fight against terror in Iraq and Kurdistan is essential, as there is a real risk of the resurgence of terrorists especially near Kirkuk.

Mr. Hawrami and Mr. Choi also discussed parliamentary, cultural and trade relations and cooperation between Kurdistan Region and South Korea.
