Deputy Speaker Hawrami welcomes new Head of EU Liaison Office, Mr. Vincent-Guillaume Poupeau

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 26 January welcomed Mr. Vincent-Guillaume Poupeau, the new Head of the EU Liaison Office in Erbil. They discussed the recently passed Reform Law, plans for more reforms, and other political developments.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami briefed Mr. Poupeau about the aims of the Reform Law, which was passed by the Kurdistan Parliament on 16 January.

Mr. Poupeau commended the Kurdistan Parliament and the Kurdistan Regional Government on the Reform Law. He said, “The Reform Law is transparent and is a big achievement.”

Mr. Hawrami said that the aims are to bring more fairness to the government salary and pensions system, to bring justice by correcting payment irregularities and reducing high grades’ pensions, to reactivate the Pension Fund and reduce waste of public funds.

He also informed Mr. Poupeau about plans for reform in other areas: the investment law, education and higher education, income, oil, the Peshmerga, and government administration.

Mr. Poupeau said, “You are sending a good signal about carrying out reform.”

The Deputy Speaker and the Head of the EU Liaison Office also discussed Erbil-Baghdad dialogue and relations and political developments in the region.
