Parliament completes second reading of Reform Bill, will vote on 16 January

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 13 January chaired a lengthy sitting late into the night, to complete the second reading of the Reform Bill. 

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Secretary Muna Kahveci also attended the sitting.

Several Kurdistan Regional Government ministers attended day 2 of the second reading, to give their comments and clarifications on the bill: Finance Minister Awat Janab; Minister for the Region for Parliament Affairs Vala Fareed; Head of the Divan of the Cabinet Omed Sabah; and Cabinet Secretary Amanj Rahim.

MPs debated the articles on pensions, allowances, years of service, grades, job titles and salaries. They gave their comments and suggestions on how to improve the articles in the interests of government employees in Kurdistan.

The ministers and officials present also gave their comments, saying that the aim of the Reform Bill is to bring fairness to the system of government employees’ and others’ salaries, pensions, benefits and allowances.  

Speaker Faiq asked the Legislative Committee and the other relevant committees to meet with government officials the next day, 14 January, to prepare their final report on the Bill and submit it to Parliament’s Presidency. 

Speaker Faiq announced that Parliament will sit to vote on the Bill this Thursday 16 January.
