Two committees complete joint report on Turkmen National Holidays draft Resolution

Kurdistan Parliament’s Legislative Committee and Culture, Civil Society, Sports and Youth Committee on 7 January discussed their joint report on the draft Resolution on Turkmen National Days. MPs (including those not in the committees) provided their notes and suggestions to enrich the draft.

The two committees decided to include all the suggestions in their joint report to Parliament’s Presidency, who will schedule the draft Resolution for its third reading in the Parliament chamber. At the third reading, all the suggestions made by MPs for the articles of the draft resolution will be read out and voted on, as well as the resolution as a whole.

The second reading of the draft resolution was held on 24 December.

Turkmen, who are one of the original ethnic components of Kurdistan, are represented by their political parties in the Kurdistan Parliament. Five parliamentary seats are reserved for them in elections to ensure their political participation and representation. In the current fifth term, four Turkmen parties hold seats.
