Deputy Speaker Hawrami welcomes Head of Canada’s Embassy Office Ms. Ashley Durec

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 15 July met with Ms. Ashley Durec, the Head of Canada’s Embassy Office in Erbil.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami outlined the latest health and economic developments in Kurdistan Region, the situation inside the border areas, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and ISIS’s movements and activities.

Mr. Hawrami and Ms. Durec also discussed the implementation of the Reform Law, which was passed in January 2020 and began to be implemented in July, and plans for reform of many other sectors.  

The Deputy Speaker described the relationship and coordination between the Kurdistan Parliament and Kurdistan Regional Government. He said that soon Parliament and relevant government sides will work on resolutions and recommendations on several current pressing issues.

Ms. Durec commended the Kurdistan Parliament and government for the measures to contain the Coronavirus outbreak, and for the passage and implementation of the Reform Law.

The Head of Canada's Embassy Office expressed her support for a true dialogue between the KRG and the Iraqi Federal Government, to resolve the outstanding problems according to the Iraqi Constitution.
