Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq meets with France’s Consul General Olivier Decottignies

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewas Faiq on 7 July welcomed France’s Consul General in Kurdistan Region Olivier Decottignies. They discussed the political situation in Iraq, Kurdistan and the wider region, especially the risk of the re-emergence of ISIS and the Arabization of Kurdistani areas outside the KRG Administrative area, such as Kirkuk.

Speaker Faiq said that Parliament sittings were considerably delayed due to the Coronavirus, and that future sessions would focus on Turkey's military campaigns on the borders of Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s debts, and preparing for the health situation in Kurdistan for the autumn.

The Speaker thanked France’s Government for its support and cooperation with Kurdistan at every stage.

Consul General Decottignies said that France’s policy is to support a strong and united Kurdistan. France hopes that Kurdistan’s political unity and stability will be maintained, and that France can continue its partnership with Kurdistan, he said.
