Parliament’s Presidency condemns Turkey’s recent military attacks inside Kurdistan

Following the start of attacks this week by Turkey against suspected PKK positions which have killed civilians near border areas, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament condemned Turkey's military offensive and called for political dialogue. The statement is as follows:

We the Kurdistan Parliament condemn Turkey’s recent military attacks on the PKK in Kurdistan, which killed several Kurdistan Region citizens living near the border areas. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the victims, and we hope for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.

We believe that any war or military action makes the prospect of lasting peace more distant, and that the only way to solve Turkey’s Kurdish problem is through political dialogue. We support democratic, parliamentary and civic struggle in Turkey, and we call on neighbouring countries not to use Kurdistan Region’s territory as a battlefield.

We support peaceful relations with Iran, Turkey and other counties in the region, and we want engagement based on mutual respect and common economic, political and cultural interests.
