Speaker Rewas Faiq meets with Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East, Mar Gewargis III

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewas Faiq on 20 May visited the Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, His Holiness Mar Gewargis III Sliwa.

Speaker Faiq and Mar Gewargis III discussed the friendship and peaceful co-existence between the diverse religious and ethnic communities in the Kurdistan region. Speaker Faiq said, “The Kurdistan Parliament has worked to protect the peaceful coexistence of all people in Kurdistan, and this is a source of pride for our nation. This is why we believe the elected representatives of your communities should preserve social peace and help solve the public’s problems and complaints.”

Mar Gewargis said, “We are very pleased to see a woman holding the Speaker position in the Kurdistan Parliament.”

The Patriarch said that everyone should work for peace and reconciliation, and that the Assyrian peoples’ shared history with other groups in Kurdistan is looked on with pride.
