Speaker Rewas Faiq meets with Australia’s Ambassador to Iraq Joanne Loundes
Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 1 March welcomed Australia’s Ambassador Joanne Loundes. They discussed the formation of the next Iraqi cabinet and Parliament's legislative priorities.
Speaker Faiq explained the laws that the Kurdistan Parliament passed in the autumn session, including the Reform Bill which she said was very challenging.
The Speaker gave her views on the political situation in Iraq and attempts by Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to form the new Iraq cabinet by Muhamad Allawi.
Dr.Faiq said, “Kurdistan has fears and concerns about the formation of the next Iraqi government without real participation of Kurdistan Region, and the adverse impact that this would have on Kurdistan Region as a constitutional entity”.
Regarding the new legislative season, Speaker Faiq said, “We have several important bills to work on, be including combatting oil smuggling, protection of water resources, protection of local products, and amending the Investment Law.”.
We are also waiting for the Kurdistan Regional Government to prepare a unified pensions bill and direct it to the Kurdistan Parliament.
Ambassador Loundes thanked the Speaker for the meeting and said she hopes that the new Iraqi Government will serve everyone and will protect the rights of all the communities in Iraq without discimination.
