Speaker Rewas Faiq met with Turkey’s Consul General Hakan Karacay

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 19 May met with Turkey’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Hakan Karacay. They discussed bilateral relations and the role of Kurdistan’s diverse ethnic and religious components in politics.

Speaker Faiq said that Kurdistan Region and Turkey enjoy close societal, educational, linguistic and commercial ties, as neighbours with strong relations at many levels.

Speaker Faiq said, “The people of Kurdistan Region are proud of the peaceful coexistence between the original ethnic and religious communities here, and under Law Number 5 of 2015 their cultural and linguistic rights are protected. Kurdistan is known for accepting diversity and tolerance. The minorities should be impartial towards the political forces, particularly when there are disagreements that are about issues unrelated to their cultural and national rights.”

Consul General Karacay said, “We always stress the need to further our relations, particularly in trade, tourism and health, and we hope that our ties will become stronger.”
