Committees' recent meetings - 14 November 2020
Peshmerga Committee
11 November - Members of the committee, led by the chair Reving Heruri (KDP), visited the command of the 70th brigade of the Peshmerga forces in Slemani governorate.
The MPs and the commanders both emphasized the need for everyone to put their efforts into resolving the issue of unifying the Peshmerga forces that are not yet incorporated into the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
The Parliament committee members also visited Slemani Infantry Training Centre, Goma Training Centre and Qalachwalan Military College, meeting with Peshmerga commanders and troops to understand their challenges, problems and demands.
Social Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Committee
11 November - Members of the committee, led by the chair Romeo Hakari (National Union Coalition), participated in a meeting arranged by Judal Organization with the help of Dmdm Foundation, to suggest amendments to Kurdistan Region Law No. 22 of 2011 on the Rights and Privileges of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs.
Shilan Goran, the head of Judal Organization, said that Judal in cooperation with Dmdm had held a series of meetings with lawyers and child psychologists to discuss how that law should be amended.
Several important and useful recommendations were made to the MPs on amendments to Law No. 22 of 2011. The KRG Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs’ own draft of amendments will soon be directed to Parliament by the Council of Ministers so that it can go through the legislative process and be added to the order of business (agenda) of a Parliament sitting for its first reading.
Dr. Saber Khoshnaw discussed the details of the current law and the rights of persons with disabilities generally, such as those with autism disorders. According to unofficial statistics, more than 3,000 cases of autism have been recorded in the four provinces of Kurdistan Region.
