A summary of Kurdistan Parliament's committees' recent meetings and activities:

Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee welcomes Bundestag’s extension of German military mission against ISIS in Iraq

31 October - The committee made the following statement on the German Bundestag’s (Parliament) decision to extend the German armed forces’ mission in Iraq to counter ISIS:

We commend and thank the Federal Parliament of Germany for their wise decision to extend Germany’s military mission in Iraq and Kurdistan Region until 2022.

Germany, as an ally in the global coalition against ISIS, has played a major role in fighting against the terrorist organisation, and in training and reorganizing the Peshmerga forces in recent years.

Parliament Affairs and Complaints Committee

28 October - The committee, led by the chair Esmail Sgery (KIU), held their regular meeting.

The MPs followed up on their sub-committee’s visit to Parliament’s branch offices in Duhok, Zakho, Soran and Akre, and they decided to summarize all the comments, suggestions and findings in a report to the Presidency of Parliament, with the aim of strengthening relations between Parliament’s branch offices and the local citizens.

All of the reports and notes sent to the committee were read and received a response or were directed to Parliament’s Presidency for further work. 

Committee on Municipalities, Transport, Communication, Travel and Tourism

28 October - The committee, led by the chair Luqman Wardy (PUK), held their usual meeting.

The MPs discussed their sub-committee’s recent meeting with the Minister of Municipalities and Tourism Sasan Awni which focused on Law No. 3 of 2019 on Ownership of Illegally Taken or Used Land in Kurdistan Region’s Municipalities; as well as household water meters and refuse.

Another subject of the meeting was the Bill on Water Conservation and Management in Kurdistan Region.

Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside KRG Administrative Area

28 October - The committee, led by the chair Jiwan Rojbayani (KDP), held their regular meeting.

The next Iraqi Parliament election and cooperation on it between the Kurdistani parties, especially in Kirkuk, were discussed.

Another topic of the meeting was about the situation in the Kurdistani areas outside the Kurdistan Regional Government administrative area. The committee decided to invite the KRG’s negotiating team to discuss it.
