Parliament Committee and Kurdistan Regional Government discuss Shengal and other Kurdistani areas

9 November – The Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area, led by the chair Jiwan Rojbayani (KDP) met with the Minister of Interior, Rebar Ahmed; Khalid Shwani, Minister of the Region for Negotiations with the Iraqi Federal Government; Dana Abdulkarim, the Minister of Housing and Reconstruction; and the General Board for Kurdistani Areas Outside the Region.

The MPs and government discussed the agreement between Baghdad and Erbil to normalize the situation in Shengal.

They also looked at the state generally of the Kurdistani areas outside the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) administrative area, and cooperation between the government and parliament on normalizing the situation in those areas. The MPs asked the delegation to focus their efforts on getting an agreement on those areas, especially Kirkuk. Both sides agreed that unity is essential on implementing the provisions of Article 140 by establishing special committees.

The committee expressed their support for the government’s steps that led to the Shengal agreement and its future implementation, and the government’s efforts on normalizing Kirkuk.

All of the requests sent to the committee by the public were directed to the Government officials for follow-up and action.
