Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq's condolences on passing of Dr. Firsat Sofi, Governor of Erbil

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Firsat Sofi, Governor of Erbil and former MP in Kurdistan Parliament’s fourth term.

Dr. Firsat was a unique and special person, a loyal and trustworthy friend, eager for unity, harmony and brotherhood. Whenever disputes between political forces seemed impassable, particularly between the PUK and KDP, he worked to reconnect them.

As Governor, several crises made it impossible for Dr. Firsat to carry out his plans and programs, but from the very start of the Coronavirus outbreak, he worked so hard to serve, care for and protect the people, that eventually he paid the highest price for his dedication to his work and his contact with all walks of life.

Dr. Firsat’s untimely passing prevented him from fulfilling his patriotic plans for his country. His death is a great loss that deeply saddens us. My condolences to his family and to our people. We ask God to give his family patience and that his soul rest in peace.
