Speaker Rewaz Faiq’s message on Slemani city's 236th birthday

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 14 November congratulated the city of Slemani on its 236th birthday, in the following message:

Today 236 years have passed since the founding of Slemani, a beautiful and unusual city whose first foundation stone was laid by Ibrahim Pasha Baban on 14th November 1784.

Since its founding, Slemani has been the city of political and literary revolution and inspiration, the leader of development and renewal of the Kurdistani community, the creator and engine of revolutions, uprisings and political movements, with the venerated identity of a city that throughout its history has symbolized and been the stage for resistance against invaders. 

Today Slemani is the cultural capital of Kurdistan Region, and the desire and hope for progress, forgiveness and coexistence are stronger than at any other time, which reminds us that despite the current difficulties, Slemani’s spirit of hope continues to welcome a new day to build a brighter and more worthy future.

On this special occasion, my best wishes to Slemani, the city of culture and beauty, stay safe and proud for your people.
