Parliament commemorates third anniversary of Mam Jalal Talabani’s passing

The Kurdistan Parliament on 4 October held a remembrance ceremony on the third anniversary of the passing of Mam Jalal Talabani, who was the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and president of Iraq.

The Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, Secretary Muna Kahveci and MPs from many parties attended the remembrance ceremony.

Speaker Faiq in a speech described Jalal Talabani’s struggle for the people of Kurdistan and his role in Kurdistan, Iraq, the region, and internationally.

She said, "Although you have left us, your words and deeds live on in the minds and conscience of the Iraqi people as a whole, and especially the Kurdish people.”

The Speaker added, "Mam Jalal played a historic role in the September revolution and was the founder of the new revolution; he was a prominent icon of the former and the leader of the latter."

"As the first elected president of the new Iraq, he played an important part in ensuring co-operation between Iraq and the international community,” she said

Speaker Faiq also talked about Mam Jalal’s influence in Kurdistan, "Maintaining unity among political forces was his main aim inside the Kurdistan Region.”

The Presidency of Parliament and the parliamentary parties laid flowers next to Mam Jalal's picture.

The Presidency then officially opened a photographic exhibition on the leader’s life and political struggle.
