Committees' recent meetings - 17 September 2020
A summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees’ recent meetings and activities:
Finance and Economic Affairs Committee
16 September - the committee, led by the chair Ziyad Jabbar (PUK), met to prepare their report on the Bill on the sale and purchase of government assets. They also prepared their report on the findings of their visits to the customs border points.
Energy, Natural Resources, Commerce and Industry Committee
16 September - the committee, led by the chair Ali Hama Salih (Gorran), met to discuss electricity and the problem of shut-down factories.
They also discussed in detail the Bill on the Import and Sale of Oil Products in the Kurdistan Region, and the privatization of electricity for the benefit of the public and Kurdistan's companies.
Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee
16 September - The committee, led by the vice-chair Mala Ihsan Rekani (KDP), welcome teachers and religious figures from the Turkmen community.
The Turkmen religious scholars and the MPs discussed the importance of maintaining Kurdistan’s peaceful coexistence between diverse religious and ethnic communities. They commended Kurdistan Parliament's role in protecting peaceful coexistence, referring to Law No. 1 in 1992 and Law No. 5 in 2015, which guarantees political representation of Kurdistan’s original components.
Social Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Committee
16 September - The committee, led by the chair Romeo Hakkari (National Union Coalition), in preparation for the same day’s Parliament sitting, had a final review and check of their report on prison conditions and inmates’ demands. Later the same day at the sitting, they read the report to MPs and to the responsible Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, Kwestan Mohamad.
Committee on Kurdistani Areas Outside the KRG Administrative Area
16 September - the committee, led by the chair Jiwan Rozhbayani (KDP), bid farewell to the committee’s retiring adviser, Hassan Kakayi, and thanked him for his service.
