Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets Norwegian Embassy's First Secretary Ole Denstad
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 27 September welcomed Mr Ole Denstad, the new First Secretary of the Norwegian Embassy in Jordan, with responsibility for humanitarian and political affairs in Iraq.
Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP) and Sirwan Baban (independent) from Parliament’s Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee participated in the meeting.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami briefed Mr Denstad on Parliament’s reserved seats for Christians and Turkmen and the minimum quota of women MPs, and on Parliament’s role and priorities.
On the reform process, Mr. Hawrami said that the Kurdistan Parliament gave a vote of confidence to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s agenda, including the Reform Law which was passed by Parliament in January 2020 and is part of the Government’s broader reform programme which covers all sectors and is ongoing.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami added that if Norway had a consulate in Kurdistan Region, this would help to strengthen relations between the two nations, including inter-parliamentary relations.
Mr. Hawrami and Mr. Denstad also discussed the economic situation, the Coronavirus pandemic, Erbil-Baghdad relations, and the humanitarian situation for refugees and IDPs in Kurdistan.
First Secretary Denstad said that Norway values good relations with Kurdistan Region and hopes to develop them at all levels and in all sectors.
