Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with Philippine Ambassador to Iraq

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 20 September welcomed the Philippine Ambassador to Iraq Genoroso Calonge, and his delegation.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami briefed Ambassador Calonge on Parliament’s recently passed legislation and latest bills, and on MPs’ scrutiny of the Government’s policies. He explained the seats in Parliament reserved for Christian, Armenian and Turkmen parties, to legally ensure their political participation and representation.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that the Kurdistan Parliament and the Kurdistan Region hope to strengthen relations with the Philippines. He and Ambassador Calonge also discussed the dialogue between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, the latest Coronavirus situation, and the economic impact of the pandemic on Kurdistan and around the world.

Ambassador Calonge also expressed his hope for closer relations between their two countries, and said that the Philippines would try to open a consulate or embassy office in Kurdistan Region to this end, and to provide assistance and services for the Philippine community in Kurdistan.
