MPs pass Bill on Responsibility of Government Employees with 71 votes; Speaker says PM and Deputy PM will answer questions in Parliament

Kurdistan Parliament MPs on 29 September passed the Bill on Responsibility of Government Employees. Seventy-one MPs voted in favour of the bill. Parliament has a total of 111 MPs. At the sitting Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq said that in the near future the KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani will answer MPs’ questions in Parliament.

MPs’ questions to the government include the economy, which has been hit by the Iraqi federal government’s withholding of Kurdistan government employees’ salaries, the fall in the oil price and the Coronavirus pandemic. MPs’ questions also focus on the customs and duties collected at the border gates.

MPs then voted on each article of the Bill on Responsibility of Government Employees, and on the bill in its entirety. It passed with 71 votes. The aim of the bill is to ensure that government employees take responsibility for looking after government assets or properties that they use in their work.
