Speaker Rewas Faiq welcomes new US Consul General Rob Waller

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 17 August welcomed Rob Waller, the new United States Consul General to Kurdistan Region.

Speaker Faiq congratulated Mr. Waller on his new posting to Kurdistan Region and briefed him on recent political events and progress in Kurdistan and Iraq. She thanked the US for its assistance to Kurdistan Region, particularly in supporting the Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS.

On the economic situation and relations between Erbil and Baghdad, Speaker Faiq said, “Our strategy is deeply focused on Iraq, and Kurdistan Region has no other option but to make an agreement with Iraq.”

The Speaker said, “The reform process is ongoing and should be broadened to reform income, not just expenditure. we believe that Kurdistan’s actual income is more than what is going into the treasury.”

Consul General Waller thanked Speaker Faiq for the meeting and said he hopes that Kurdistan can overcome the current economic crisis and health challenges.
