Parliament Presidency's statement on 33rd day of remembrance of Anfal campaign in Badinan

Today we commemorate another brutal crime of the Ba'athist regime against the people of Kurdistan and humanity, on this 33rd anniversary of the Anfal campaign in the Badinan area.

On that day the Ba'ath regime targeted both Muslims and Christians in the the last stage of the Anfal campaign and destroyed mosques, churches and shrines, with disregard for the environment and natural habitats, killing thousands of civilians of different religions and ethnicities in the area, destroyed hundreds of villages and displacing tens of thousands of people.

On this day of remembrance we reaffirm our commitment to working for recognition of the crimes against the people of Kurdistan as acts of genocide and we insist that the Iraqi state must fulfill its responsibility to materially compensate the survivors and victims’ families, according to the Iraqi Constitution, The international community is responsible for ensuring that the people of Kurdistan are protected from such crimes.

To protect and consolidate the rights of the people of Kurdistan, political force and parties, intellectuals and influential actors must come together to protect Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights.

God rest the souls of the victims of the Anfal genocide and all who lost their lives in the struggle for the Kurdistani people’s rights.
