Secretary Muna Kahveci chairs meetings with Alliance of Iraqi Minorities and other NGOs on education bills and rights of components

Kurdistan Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci on 25 August chaired two separate meetings with members of Parliament, the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities Network and several civil society organizations working on educational development.

At both meetings, Secretary Kahveci emphasized the important role of organizations in educational and personal development. She said, "We appreciate the work and efforts of civil association organizations in education, which can help to further strengthen the peaceful coexistence between different communities in the Kurdistan Region."

The two groups of civil society organizations made comments and suggestions on two bills on education and on amendments to Law No. 5 of 2015, the Law on the Protection of the Rights of the Components in Kurdistan Region.

The NGOs highlighted the shortcomings of each draft legislation, and Secretary Kahveci said that Law No. 5 of 2015 is important in ensuring the rights of the different original ethnic and religious communities.

The participants decided to discuss the two bills with stakeholders and all the parties in the Kurdistan Parliament, and to ask the parliamentary parties to prioritize them.
