Speaker Faiq meets with outgoing Head of Canada's Embassy Office Ms. Ashley Durec
Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 16 August met with Ms. Ashley Durec, the outgoing Head of Canada’s Embassy Office in Kurdistan Region, to bid her farewell and thank her for her cooperation during her posting.
Speaker Faiq and Ms. Durec discussed Parliament’s current work, and the steps taken to prepare for the drafting of the Kurdistan Constitution. Speaker Faiq stressed the importance of having a Constitution for Kurdistan. She also referred to legislation needed to strengthen industry, agriculture, tourism and trade to reduce economic reliance on oil.
On the drafting of the Kurdistan Constitution, the Speaker said, "Steps have been taken to draft it. We want to lay the groundwork for drafting a Constitution for the people that consolidates national unity, conforms with the domestic, Iraqi and regional situation, and determines all the rights, freedoms and wishes of the citizens of Kurdistan."
The Head of Canada’s Embassy Office Ms. Durec thanked Speaker Faiq for her support and cooperation during her posting in Kurdistan Region.
