Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami meets with US Consulate General Chief of Political and Economic Affairs Ms. Dew Tiantawach
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 12 December 2021 met with Ms. Dew Tiantawach, the US Consulate General's Chief of Political and Economic Affairs, and Mr. Joshua Lewis, Political and Economic Officer. They discussed the ISIS terrorist organization’s increased attacks on the Peshmerga forces and Parliament’s current priorities.
Ms. Tiantawach and Mr. Lewis expressed their condolences to the Kurdistan Parliament for the killing of Peshmerga soldiers and civilians in recent days at the hands of the ISIS terrorist organization, in the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administrative area.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami and the US Consulate General representatives discussed the overall political and economic situation and increased ISIS movements in the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administrative area, with more terrorist attacks on Peshmerga posts and villagers.
Dr. Hawrami called for coordination to be implemented between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi defence forces to fill the security vacuum in those areas.
He thanked the United States for their assistance to the Peshmerga forces and their role in the International Coalition to defeat ISIS.
The Deputy Speaker gave an overview of the Kurdistan Parliament’s priorities for the coming months, including re-establishing the Kurdistan High Election Commission ahead of the next Parliament election which should be held in 2022, the Kurdistan Election Law, voter registration, and drafting the Kurdistan Constitution.
