Deputy Speaker Hawrami and MPs meet with KRG Health Minister Dr. Saman Barzinji

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami and members of Parliament’s Health, Environment and Consumer Rights Committee on 25 February met with the KRG Health Minister Dr. Saman Barzinji, to follow up on the Ministry’s work, the Coronavirus situation and its implementation of legislation.

The visit to the Health Ministry is part of a series of meetings with the Government and other institutions that Dr. Hawrami has led during the current Parliament recess.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami thanked the Health Ministry for being responsive to Parliament’s Health Committee’s questions.

Dr. Hawrami said that the purpose of the meeting was to monitor and follow up on laws that have been passed by Parliament, especially the Reform Law, the government's manifesto regarding healthcare and improvement of services for the public, and the Ministry’s measures to contain the Coronavirus.

The MPs and the Health Ministry officials also discussed the latest situation in the Coronavirus pandemic in Kurdistan Region, vaccines, the public and private health sectors, regulating the prices of services, and improving control of pharmaceuticals.

The Deputy Speaker added that MPs are ready to look at any legislation that needs to be passed or amended to improve healthcare, in cooperation with experts and the Ministry.

Minister Barzinji explained the Health Ministry’s measures to implement the Reform Law and laws that apply to the health sector while facing great financial challenges as well as the Coronavirus pandemic.

The MPs and staff of the ministry discussed many areas, and agreed to have ongoing meetings.
