Deputy Speaker Hawrami and MPs visit Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs

As part of a series of recent visits to institutions to monitor the Government’s work, Kurdistan Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 16 February led MPs in a meeting with the KRG Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs Abdulla Haji Mahmood. MPs from the Parliament Committee on Martyrs’ Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners took part in the meeting.

With Deputy Minister Barvan Hamdi, advisers and general directors of the ministry also at the meeting, on behalf of Parliament’s Presidency Dr. Hawrami thanked Minister Abdulla Haji Mahmood and his colleagues for their cooperation with Parliament’s committees.

He said that Parliament places great importance on the ministry’s implementation of the Reform Law and of the KRG ninth cabinet’s manifesto, and on serving the families of martyrs, Anfal victims and political prisoners.

Minister Abdulla Haji Mahmood gave an overview of the ministry's work; services provided to the relatives of martyrs, political prisoners and victims of genocide; their measures to implement the Reform Law; and plans for establishing a commission to document and investigate genocide cases. 

The victims of crimes committed by ISIS, mechanisms and plans for transferring martyrs’ cases to the ministry, and providing services to their families in the framework of laws and instructions were discussed.

The MPs appreciated the ministry's work and implementation of the Reform Law, and both side agreed on continued cooperation.
