Committees' recent meetings - 20 January 2021
A summary of Kurdistan Parliament's committees' recent meetings and activities:
Protection of Women's Rights Committee
18 January - The Committee, led by the chair Lanja Dizayee (KDP), met with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), a non-profit organization that works on strengthening democratic institutions.
The meeting focused on laws that deal with or impact women’s rights and the extent to which they are implemented in Kurdistan Region, and how the committee can work with NDI on these areas.
The NDI discussed the possibility of providing training to the committee’s staff on legislation on women’s rights, labour and workers, and gender equality in Kurdistan Region.
The MPs and NDI agreed to continued working together on these issues.
Martyrs’ Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee
18 January - Members of the Committee, led by the chair Sawsan Muhammad Mirkhan (KDP), met with the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs Abdullah Haji Mahmood, his advisers and the committee for reviewing the list of former political prisoners, at the ministry.
The Parliament committee and the Minister discussed the measures taken to review and correct the list of former political prisoners in such a way that their rights are protected. The committee explained the livelihoods and circumstances of former political prisoners, and they emphasized the need to speed up the reform process.
