Deputy Speaker Hawrami leads Parliament delegation to Bardarash and Akre districts
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami and a cross-party group of MPs on 19 January went to Bardarash and Akre districts for meetings with local authorities, political parties and Parliament’s branch office, to look into the legal, administrative and services problems in the area.
The delegation first met with the mayor of Bardarash, Khalil Mahmud, to discuss how the office delivers local citizens’ requests to Parliament and how the staff coordinate with the mayor and local administrations. In terms of ensuring that local residents’ requests and demands reach Parliament so that MPs can fulfill their most important task of raising and following up on citizens’ problems, and understanding to what extent laws are enforced.
Dr. Hawrami said, “The aim of Parliament and Government is to provide services to citizens in all different sectors, and one of the main tasks of Parliament’s committees is to follow up on them, so it’s important for us to know what is required to complete the projects, whether in education or roads. Our standing committees and Parliamentary offices are in constant touch with the presidency of the Council of Ministers and Ministers to solve issues.”
The delegation met with the staff of Kurdistan Parliament’s office in Akre district, to discuss how the office delivers local citizens’ requests to Parliament and how the staff coordinate with the Mayor and local administrations.
Then the delegation visited the mayor of Akre district Mazin Muhammad Saeed, and discussed the decentralization of powers to local administrations and facilitating administrative procedures to reduce bureaucracy for the public.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami thanked the Mayor of Akre, all the managers of Akre district, and the people of the area who played a significant role in fighting against ISIS due to their location very near the frontline of the war, and in tackling Coronavirus while supporting refugees and IDPs.
The mayors of Bardarash and Akre discussed the problems in their districts and presented their plans to develop and revitalize them and better serve the public.
The Parliament delegation also separately visited the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) branch office and met with the head Salam Surchi, and Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) 9th branch and met with the head Sabah Baytullah. In both meetings the MPs focused on the importance of the unity of the political parties to prevent and tackle threats to the Kurdistan Region and to protect Kurdistan’s achievements.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami said, “We are making concerted efforts to achieve unity of the parties in Parliament. National unity of the people of Kurdistan should be strengthened at this critical time and the political parties should draw closer together. We are all aware where the threats to Kurdistan Region originate from, they are the same threats to the people and to our constitutional status. We can get through this difficult stage by being united”.
