Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with Norway's Ambassador to Iraq Tone Allers
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 31 January welcomed Norway's Ambassador to Iraq Tone Allers. Dr. Hawrami and Ambassador Allers discussed the political, economic, security and humanitarian situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Ambassador Allers, how is based at the embassy in Amman and covers both Iraq and Jordan, said that Norway is a member of the UN Security Council for 2021-2022 and therefore takes even more interest in Iraq's stability and situation.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that on 28 January, Kurdistan Parliament's presidency hosted a meeting with all of the Kurdistani political parties' election offices to stress that a unified strategy and a coalition is needed for the next Iraqi election. Now that Iraq's election system has changed to single non-transferrable vote with constituencies, a coalition would help Kurdistani representation in the areas outside the KRG administrative area, such as Kirkuk.
Dr. Hawrami and Ambassador Allers also discussed voting for IDPs in IDP camps and the importance of UN observation and monitoring of elections; implementation of the Sinjar Agreement; ISIS's movements and activities; and the need for Peshmerga-Iraqi security forces' coordination.
Ambassador Allers said that the stability and prosperity of Iraq and Kurdistan Region are very important for all of Europe.
