Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee thanks Belgian Parliament for recognition of Yazidi Genocide

We thank Belgium’s House of Representatives for their recognition of the genocide against the Yazidis, and we thank each and every member of the Belgian Parliament who voted on this important issue that shook humanity’s conscience.

We also thank the Foreign Relations Committee of the Belgian Parliament, especially their member Mr. George Dallemagne, with whom we had discussions nine months ago in the Kurdistan Parliament. We felt the compassion that Mr. Dallemagne and his colleagues in the committee showed in wishing to raise this issue first in the Belgian Parliament and then in the European Parliament, by proposing a resolution to recognize the killing of the Yazidis as genocide.

The resolution is warmly welcomed by every Yazidi, Kurdistani and liberal, and supports the aim of securing legal, moral and material justice for our Yazidi brethren for the terrible crimes committed against them.

We hope that other nations’ parliamentarians will be motivated by the Belgian Parliament's actions to take similar steps, to help achieve justice for the Yazidi victims, survivors and their families, so that freedom will prevail over brutality and oppression, so that we come closer to a world without such crimes, and to compel the Iraqi Government to fulfill its legal responsibilities regarding this case.
