Speaker Rewaz Faiq meets with heads of provincial councils

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Rewaz Faiq and Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 30 June welcomed the heads of Erbil, Slemani and Duhok provincial councils, to discuss their legal and administrative problems.

The heads of the parliament blocks also participated in the meeting.

The heads of the three provincial councils explained their legal and administrative problems. They highlighted Law No. 3 of 2009, the Law on the Provinces of Kurdistan Region – Iraq, in which under Article 16 the provincial councils are monitored by Parliament to ensure their duties are properly performed.

The heads asked that Law No. 3 of 2009 be amended to allow the councils to work more efficiently and also called for coordination with Parliament’s standing committees to scrutinize public services projects.

Speaker Faiq and Deputy Speaker Hawrami expressed their support for the demands and the suggestion of amending the provisions of the law, so that it better serves the public interest and supports the work of the provincial councils.
