Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with United States Institute of Peace MENA Director Dr. Elie Abouaoun
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 16 June met with the United States Institute of Peace Director of Middle East and North Africa Programs, Dr. Elie Abouaoun.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami and Dr. Abouaoun discussed the political, security and humanitarian situation in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG, and the rest of Iraq.
They also discussed the next Iraqi election and the wider regional situation.
Dr. Hawrami explained Kurdistan Parliament's legislation priorities for the current term, which include the Bill on the Special Court for the Crimes by ISIS, the Kurdistan Constitution and the expected Kurdistan Region Budget Bill.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami and Dr. Abouaoun agreed that IDPs should not be forced to return to their areas, and that their areas need stabilization and security for a safe return to be possible.
