Speaker Faiq chairs fourth consultation with UNITAD, academics and legal experts on the Bill on Court for Crimes of ISIS

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 14 June chaired the fourth consultative meeting with UNITAD, to discuss the Bill on the Court in Kurdistan Region for the Crimes of ISIS. This time university academics and legal experts participated in the meeting.

The bill had its first reading in Parliament on 5 May, and is being reviewed and prepared for its second reading. The first meeting and second meetings with UNITAD took place on 31 May and 7 June.

The participants included Dr. Bizhar Kochar (KDP), the chair of Parliament’s Legislative Committee; Dr. Vala Fareed, KRG Minister for the Region for Parliament Affairs; Dr. Dindar Zebari, KRG International Advocacy Coordinator; Christopher Gosnell, Senior Advisor to UNITAD; university academics and legal experts, and Parliament’s legislative advisers.

The university academics and legal experts expressed many views on the Bill on the Court in Kurdistan Region for the Crimes of ISIS. Speaker Faiq appreciated their comments and hoped that in the next stages the academics will continue to co-ordinate with Parliament and the Legislative Committee in working on the draft.

This is the fourth consultative meeting on the bill to be chaired by the Speaker.
