Speaker Rewaz Faiq meets with head of Chaldean League Safa Hindi

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 23 June met with Mr. Safa Sabah Hindi, the head of the Chaldean League, and his staff.

MP Janan Jabar Boya (National Union Coalition) participated in the meeting.

Speaker Faiq focused on Parliament’s steps to resume the drafting of the Kurdistan Constitution and the need to define and protect the rights of Kurdistan’s original ethnic and religious component communities.

The Speaker said, “We support all communities’ rights in the Kurdistan Constitution, and the communities will have their representatives in the Constitution drafting committee where they can present their rights and demands.”

She added, “Writing the constitution is an important process and requires national coordination and acceptance by all the ethnic and religious communities of Kurdistan Region”.

Mr. Hindi asked that the rights of Kurdistan Region’s component communities be fully recognized in the future Constitution. He said that in the previous draft, the Chaldeans, Syriacs and Assyrians are written together, and he asked that the names of each community be mentioned separately.
