Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami meets with Germany's Consul General Klemens Semtner

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 17 May welcomed Germany's Consul General, Klemens Semtner. They discussed the Kurdistan Region budget preparations, the Bill on the Court for Crimes by ISIS, the reform process and parliament capacity-building.

On behalf of Parliament, Dr. Hawrami thanked Consul General Semtner for Germany's steadfast support and friendship with Kurdistan Region, and for the possibility of supporting Parliament's needs in terms of capacity-building and strengthening expertise. 

The Deputy Speaker said that the first reading of the Bill on the Court in Kurdistan Region for Crimes by ISIS has been held, and Parliament will work on the bill ahead of its second reading.

Regarding the reform process, he said that Parliament's committees have received two reports so far from the Kurdistan Regional Government on implementation of the Reform Law (Law No. 2 of 2020).

Dr. Hawrami said that Parliament considers the Kurdistan Region budget bill to be very important for transparency and good governance.

Consul General Semtner said that Germany's expert NGOs are ready to provide capacity-building programmes for the Kurdistan Parliament, which was welcomed by Deputy Speaker Hawrami.
