Parliament passes Law on Electricity Ministry

The Kurdistan Parliament on 18 May held a sitting presided over by the Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq, for votes on two items and first readings of several bills. MPs passed the Law on the Ministry of Electricity in Kurdistan Region.

MPs by a majority approved the candidate Ms. Muni Yukhna Yaqu for the post of the Head of the Independent Human Rights Commission of the Kurdistan Region.

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Secretary Muna Kahveci were alongside the Speaker at the sitting.

With the vote of 64 MPs, Parliament passed the Law on the Ministry of Electricity in Kurdistan Region. The legislation recognizes the importance of energy for the daily life, health and wellbeing of the public and its effect on Kurdistan Region’s economic infrastructure, organizes and regulates the ministry’s work, places importance on the activities of the public and private sectors and creates a framework for the ministry to achieve its goals.

Parliament also held first readings of the following bills:

- Application of the Iraq Stamp Duty Law (Law No. 71 of 2012) in Kurdistan Region – Iraq.

- Amendments to the Law on Rights and Privileges of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs in Kurdistan Region – Iraq (Law No. 22 of 2011).

- Application of and amendments to the Law on Industrial Investment for Private and Mixed Sectors, amended Law No. 20 of 1998, in Kurdistan Region – Iraq.

-  Second amendments to the Law on the Union of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Kurdistan Region – Iraq (Law No. 14 of 1993).

- First amendments to the Law on the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Kurdistan Region – Iraq (Law No. 10 of 2010).

- Amendments to the application of Iraq Trade Law No. 30 of 1984 in Kurdistan Region - Iraq.
