Speaker welcomes Japan’s new Head of Consular Office Mikihiro Arakawa

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 24 May met with Mr. Mikihiro Arakawa, the new Head of Japan’s Consular Office in Kurdistan Region.

They discussed the legal and constitutional relationship between the Kurdistan Parliament and Council of Representatives of Iraq. Speaker Faiq said, "The relationship between the Kurdistan Parliament and Council of Representatives of Iraq is determined in the Iraqi Constitution of 2005. Generally there is a good relationship and coordination between the standing committees of both legislatures. Kurdistan Parliament is a constitutional institution.”

Speaker Faiq also talked about the system and procedures of Kurdistan Parliament’s work and the relationship between the different parliamentary parties.

Dr. Faiq briefed Mr. Arakawa on the laws passed and currently in passage in this fifth term of Parliament, with the aim of improving people’s livelihoods and welfare and developing agriculture, industry and tourism to diversify away from reliance on oil and gas as the main source of income.

Mr. Arakawa thanked Speaker Faiq for the meeting and wished the Parliament continued success.
