Statement by Kurdistan Parliament Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee for the public and for our migrants in Belarus
Dear citizens and families of our migrants in Belarus and other countries, as we all watch with great concern the emigration of our youth and the scenes on the border of Belarus and Poland, and as we continue to look for solutions, try to address the causes, and in our latest efforts to solve this national issue we decided to visit those countries’ borders to investigate the treatment of our citizens and to talk to their officials, at that moment MP Sirwan Baban, who is a member of our committee, with disregard for the feelings of the migrants’ families and in breach of parliamentary ethics, on Rudaw channel made a statement that is very far from the truth, that allegedly the European Union has decided to open the Poland-Belarus border so that our migrants in Belarus can go to Europe.
The abovementioned MP’s statement contradicts statements by EU officials and the policies of these countries, which stress the strengthening of the borders of Poland and Lithuania, and which call on people not to set off on these routes, to avoid such suffering and smugglers swindling their money.
Therefore we, Kurdistan Parliament’s Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee, refute the aforementioned statement, which does not express the views of our committee nor of the Parliament. We believe that the statement will encourage our youth to put everything they have at stake and face misery and tragedy.
