Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami meets with German academic and media delegation
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 17 October welcomed a delegation of academics, researchers and journalists from Germany. They discussed the work of the Kurdistan Parliament, the recent Iraqi general election, and the political and economic situation in Kurdistan and the wider region.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami gave the 18 members of the German group an overview of Kurdistan Parliament’s history, parties, MPs, reserved seats and standing committees, and their daily law-making and scrutiny responsibilities.
Dr. Hawrami answered questions from the German guests about the recent Iraqi election, which he said was important for democracy. He added that the low voter turn-out shows the need to win back the people’s trust in the democratic process.
The Deputy Speaker and the German academic and media delegation also exchanged views on the importance of good governance, economic diversification, and creating job opportunities for young people.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that recently the Kurdistan Parliament amended legislation to make the company registration process faster and cheaper to encourage entrepreneurship, and in 2020 passed the Reform Law, which is an ongoing process to reform the public sector employment and pension system.
