Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami meets with Joshua A. Lewis, US Consulate General Political Economic Officer
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 24 October 2021 met with Mr. Joshua A. Lewis, Political Economic Officer at the US Consulate General in Kurdistan Region. They discussed the recent Iraqi election and the current post-election talks, and the general political situation in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Mr. Lewis said that the Iraqi general election process and results were technically sound and credible. He emphasized that for the US, Kurdish unity is very important.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that the Kurdistan Region welcomes the statement by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which calls for a timely and inclusive political process in Iraq to form a Government that represents the will of the people.
The Deputy Speaker and Mr. Lewis also exchanged views on the post-election discussions by Iraqi parties, and the election results in the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administrative area, such as Kirkuk, Nineveh, Makhmour and Shengal (Sinjar).
Regarding the US-Iraq relationship, Mr. Lewis said that the US remain committed to their partners in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
