Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes Swedish Left Party delegation

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 3 October 2021 welcomed a delegation from Sweden’s Left Party, led by MP Hakan Svenneling. They discussed their parliamentary systems, forging relations between the two parliaments and the current political and economic situation.

At the meeting attended by Shoresh Qadir, the KRG Representative in Sweden, Speaker Faiq gave an overview of the Kurdistan Parliament’s beginnings, electoral system, procedures, challenges in each term of the Parliament, the parties, MPs, minimum number of women MPs by law, and the seats reserved for parties representing Kurdistan’s ethnic and religious communities.

The Parliament Speaker talked about the political and economic situation and efforts in the current parliamentary term to help develop industry, agriculture and tourism by passing relevant laws.

Dr. Faiq also spoke about the right to freedom of expression, press and media freedom and other human rights issues.  

Mr. Svenneling gave an overview of the Swedish Parliament and working procedures. Both sides agreed that it is important to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations and exchange legislative experience and expertise.

The Swedish Left Party delegation comprised Mr. Svenneling, MP Yasmine Posio, MEP Malin Bjork, First Vice-Chair of the Left Party’s International Forum Jonas Karlin, and Second Vice-Chair of the Forum Yekbun Alp.
