Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami welcomes Spain's new Ambassador to Iraq Pedro Martinez-Avial

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 23 September welcomed Spain’s new Ambassador to Iraq, Pedro Martinez-Avial Martin. They discussed developing inter-parliamentary relations and the importance of commercial and cultural exchanges between Kurdistan Region and Spain.

On behalf of the Kurdistan Parliament, Deputy Speaker Hawrami congratulated Ambassador Martinez-Avial and wished him success in his posting.

Dr. Hawrami and Spain’s new ambassador agreed on the importance of developing closer parliamentary, commercial and cultural ties between the two nations.

Ambassador Martinez-Avial commended the visible progress and development in Kurdistan Region over the past decades.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami gave an overview of Kurdistan Parliament’s make-up, parties representing different ethnic and religious communities of Kurdistan, and the current legislative priorities.

He said that Parliament had recently amended legislation to cut the red tape involved in registering a company, in order to boost entrepreneurship and encourage small businesses.

MPs Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP), chair of Parliament’s Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee, and Azad Kurachy (Turkmen Nation Party) participated in the meeting.

Ambassador Martinez-Avial was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Spain in Erbil, Mr. Sirwan Jaff.
