Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes Spain's new Ambassador to Iraq Pedro Martinez-Avial

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 23 September welcomed Spain’s new Ambassador to Iraq, Pedro Martinez-Avial Martin. They discussed the strong development and progress made by Kurdistan Region, and strengthening relations with Spain in many areas.

Speaker Faiq congratulated Ambassador Martinez-Avial on his new posting and wished him success in his duties. They discussed the progress and development made in Kurdistan Region.

Speaker Faiq said, "This progress is directly linked to the stability and safety that exists in Kurdistan. This renaissance would have been much greater without the war against ISIS. We hope that all parts of Iraq will see such peace and progress.”

The Speaker also emphasized developing relations between the Kurdistan Parliament and Spain’s Parliament, as a decentralized nation with a long parliamentary history.

Ambassador Martinez-Avial expressed his support for the Speaker's desire to strengthen parliamentary relations. They also discussed importance of commercial ties and investment in industry, agriculture and tourism.

Speaker Faiq said that in this current fifth term, Parliament will try to pass laws that will help to diversify the economy away from oil by supporting other sectors, as well as laws that protect foreign investors’ capital.

Ambassador Martinez-Avial was accompanied by Spain's Honorary Consul in Erbil, Mr. Sirwan Jaff.
