Parliament's Presidency holds meeting with heads of parliamentary parties

On 23 August 2022 Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq chaired a meeting of Parliament’s presidency and the heads of the parliamentary parties. Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, Secretary Muna Kahveci and the heads of the party blocs were at the meeting.

The MPs discussed President Nechirvan Barzani’s letter to the Kurdistan Parliament regarding the preparation and writing of the draft Kurdistan Constitution. Each party’s representative gave their view, and all agreed on having a Constitution for the Kurdistan Region.

It was suggested that Parliament’s Legislative Committee prepare a bill on the formation of a special Constitution drafting committee.

The MPs also discussed Parliament sittings which will begin soon, at the end of the current summer recess. Parliament’s priority will be the bills and proposals that meet the criteria for passing through the legislative process.

The heads of the parliamentary parties expressed their opinoins on the next Kurdistan Parliament election and the Kurdistan High Election Commission.
