Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami meets with UAE Consul General Ahmed Aldhaheri

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 16 February 2022 welcomed Mr. Ahmed Aldhaheri, the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Hawrami gave Consul General Aldhaheri an overview of the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider region and relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and expressed his views on the Iraqi federal supreme court's recent decision on Kurdistan Region’s oil and gas export.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami said, "Kurdistan Parliament’s enactment of Law No. 22 of 2007 is within the framework of Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights, and the court’s decision to call this law unconstitutional does not comply with the Iraqi Constitution nor with the court's own previous decision."

General Consul Aldhaheri thanked Deputy Speaker Hawrami for Kurdistan Region’s support during the recent attacks on the United Arab Emirates, and hoped that relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United Arab Emirates Federal National Council can be strengthened.
